Hi I'm Jeremy. I'm building this site because I'm not satisfied with other online community type websites and their lack of innovation (see the /about page). The goal is to make a superior, more open, and more decentralized online community.

I really like this Japanese rap song, but you need to understand Japanese to appreciate it.

Basically the first verse is a kid on the playground talking about playing catch, his friends liking girls, and other childhood things. The chorus is him saying lets all play together forever, even when we're adults.

Second verse is a more grown adult in his 20s - talking about recording in the studio, having fun with his friends, on stage at the club, and "playing" everyday being his dream.

Final verse is a more grown adult in his 30s - talking about how time flies, his friends' jobs, those who've become fathers, others who've gained weight, and those who passed away (reference to his father who committed suicide when he was a kid) - saying one day they'll meet again.

The song is super nostalgic, I think especially for me since I actually spent some of my childhood in Japan.

It's a bit melancholic for me as well. There was a purity to childhood. But then after school you get thrust into the wild and have to make money. Some are able to make a living do what they love, but most can't - slaving away at jobs they have zero passion for for a paycheck (reminds me of this [classic Steve Cutts video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BsjwrA_Oo18)). After university it becomes exponentially harder to make friends (unless one makes a conscious effort to), connections drift apart, people get into serious relationships and drift even further apart. The carefreeness of childhood turns into responsibilities, work, bills, stress, kids, etc. "Playing" and socializing becomes less frequent, with social interactions more resembling "networking" or "what can you do for me", and serious, distant conversations.

Of course that's a pessimistic take. There are great things about being an adult as well, and ultimately life is what you make of it. I think it's common for people to say that their childhood years were their best. But I will not resign to my best years being in my past, and will always strive to live to the fullest even into old age - always trying to keep that childhood playfulness, carefreeness, and curiosity.

The Midnight is easily one of my favorites bands, and I love that 80s style sound with the saxophone. Thought I'd heard all their music but just discovered this, and of course on first listen I'm already hooked. It's like they make nothing but bangers.

I needed to deploy a smart contract the other day with my hardware wallet and found the process way more convoluted than I expected, so I made this dead simple site: <https://www.deploysmartcontract.com/>.

This lets you take your compiled contract's ABI and bytecode (compiled with something like Remix, hardhat, truffle, Foundry, etc) along with your desired constructor arguments, and deploy via clicking a button that pops up Metamask. No coding required, but if you want to code, then the 3 lines of code you'd need are there too.

Yes [Remix ](https://remix.ethereum.org/)allows one to compile and deploy contracts via "Injected Provider - Metamask", but for whatever reason that's not working for me anymore and the "deploy" button is greyed out without any error message.

If you want to deploy it yourself with code, then it's literally just 3 lines of code in the browser with the ethers library (v5.7.2)

I use the hardhat npm library for compiling the contract, testing, and deploying locally. I just wasn't able to deploy with it using my hardware wallet (Trezor).

I'm surprised Metamask doesn't just have this feature directly in the interface (wait their UI/UX is pretty subpar, so I'm not surprised).

Yea the site is dead simple and nothing to call the newspapers about. I've been inspired by these ["boring" simple utility websites](https://twitter.com/staticmaker1) that rack in millions of views, and this was a case where I wanted something like this to exist, so I created it and felt it'd be worth the small time investment. Also I see it as a warmup for a grander idea I have. Stay tuned, and keep shipping...

Fly By Midnight - In The Night

99% of dev work has already been done before. That's why most modern dev is "Search Google" -&gt; StackOverflow or random blog post -&gt; copy & paste + tweak code

LLMs and AI code completion tools (eg. GitHub Copilot) drastically simplify this even further. In a few years, you'll simply write a prompt and the code will be written for you, infrastructure set up for you, and APIs glued together for you.

The takeaway is that basic app development will be completely commoditized within a few years, and ultimately all dev work will be. Once something has been done once and is understood by AI, then that work is now commoditized.

Developers are the "translator" between someone who wants to build something and the machine. Just like AI will automate human language translators, AI will do the same for machine translators. Of course there will still be humans verifying the AI's output and handling edge cases, but there will be significantly less demand for humans.

For developers to remain employable, they'll need to offer more than commoditized dev services. This means working at the bleeding edge of what hasn't already been done before (eg. building the AI), and/or coupling dev with other skills (eg. product, marketing, management).

Ultimately though it's an arms race where every worker is competing against their irrelevance due to automation, and it's only going to get more and more competitive as AI improves exponentially.

The tech job market sucks now, but I personally don't think it's going to get better. If/when we get back to low interest rates and another market bubble we might see another boom cycle, but long-term things are only going to get more competitive, and the longevity and time relevance of your knowledge will only decrease as tech advances exponentially.

Of course this needn't be a bad thing if our economic system was designed to accommodate automation such as via a Universal Basic Income (UBI) that ensured that job automation doesn't equate to billions of people becoming destitute, but unfortunately such obvious simple policies are beyond the cognitive capacity of politicians, and everyone else is too focused on the arms race of trying to remain economically relevant in the face of AI automation to pay attention to the bigger picture. Or even if most people see the writing on the wall and have identified the solution, actually implementing the solution is a prisoner's dilemma that requires mass collaboration and individually doesn't help you due to the time/energy opportunity cost (your skills are getting outdated as you read this) and it going against the elite's interests as poorer masses = more elite power (eg. imagine how many less OnlyFans girls there'd be if college tuition wasn't so expensive and we had a UBI).

Basically UBI would be the easiest solution to countering the massive job losses that will result from automation, while redesigning our system to have automation work FOR us rather than AGAINST us (since automation then shifts from "oh no I might lose my job" to "cool I don't need to do this menial work anymore thanks to technology"). But supporting UBI means you're lazy and want to be a useless parasite who just collects a paycheck and plays videogames right?

Speaking of which, I need to get back to work before I lose my economic relevance.
